Q What is your cancellation policy?

A

No Charge if cancelled by noon two days prior to arrival date, cancellation after this may, at our discretion, incur a charge equal to the total tariff.

Q What is your group booking cancellation policy?

A

No Charge if cancelled 30 days before arrival date, after this date all cancellations may,  at our discretion, incur a charge equal to the total tariff.

Q Do you have a portable cot and highchair available for use?

A

Yes, we have one of each available, these need to be booked ahead. If you bring your own portable cot with bedding, your child stays free.

Q Are there cooking facilities in all units and the Lodge?

A

Yes all motel units and family cottages are self – contained. The Travers-Sabine Lodge has a large fully equipped kitchen and dining area.

Q Do you have a BBQ that guests may use?

A

Yes.

Q Are there laundry facilities?

A

We have two washing machines and two dryers that are coin operated. (A $1 and a $2 coin for each machine) We also have washing lines, pegs and an ironing board for your use.

Q Do you have a drying room available for guests?

A

Yes, only during the ski season.

Q Do you have Wi-Fi available for guests to use?

A

Yes, there is free WiFi available 100MB per 24 hours , we will give you the password on arrival.

Yes every unit and the Travers-Sabine Lodge has a selection of SKY television channels.

Check out is 10 AM. We offer check in from 1 pm onward which is earlier than most places.

Q Can we bring our pet/s?

A

Although we are animal lovers, we boundary the Nelson Lakes National Park, no pets allowed.

Q How far are you from Lake Rotoiti?

A

Just a five minute bush walk beside a beautiful stream, will have you at the lake’s edge in Kerr Bay.

Q Do you have storage facilities for guests who go tramping in the park?

A

Yes, we have lockers for $5.00 plus a refundable $5 key deposit.

Q Do you have vehicle storage for guests going into the park?

A

Yes, we have a large grass area where you may leave your vehicle parked for $3 per day.

We do not have lock up or undercover storage for vehicles, bikes or boats.

Q Do you have bicycle storage for guests?

A

Bicycles can be locked on the verandas in front of the motels and cottages when staying, there are also areas you can leave locked bikes when going into the park. Please be sure to bring your own locks.

We do not allow bikes inside the Travers-Sabine Lodge, motel units or family cottages,

Q Do you have camping equipment for guests to hire?

A

We have a small range of pots/pans, sleeping bags, packs.

It is always important to come prepared for any situation if you intend of hiking/tramping in the National Park.

Q Can we leave our intentions with you at reception when we intend to tramp?

A

No. Please leave intentions with a family member or friend or you can visit www.adventuresmart.org.nz and follow the instructions for intentions there.

Q Do you have a children’s playground?

A

Just over our fence Rotoiti School has a fantastic playground and field you may use after school hours and during weekends/holidays. There is also a playground situated at Kerr Bay and another at West Bay, Lake Rotoiti.

Q Are there any restaurants and cafes in St Arnaud?

A

Yes. The St Arnaud Alpine Store, has takeaway food plus a café menu and fantastic coffee.

The Alpine Lodge caters for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Alpine Store Fish n Chip Shop is generally open on weekends.

All just a 5 minute walk from our complex.

Q Does St Arnaud have a grocery store?

A

The St Arnaud Alpine Store has a selection of groceries, meat, vegetables, fruit, pantry goods, and toiletries, they also have hot food, ice-creams, drinks, wine, spirits and beer along with a small range of fishing and tramping items, arts and crafts.

Q Does St Arnaud have a Medical Centre, G.P, Pharmacy or Ambulance service?

A

No. The closest medical centre is Wakefield (45 Minutes) Murchison, Blenheim and Nelson are all 1 hour away. Please dial 111 in an emergency

Q Is there cell phone reception in St Arnaud?

A

Within the village and most surrounding areas there is good cell phone reception. Further out between towns you may lose reception in certain areas and of course in remote areas of the national park.

Q Is there a petrol station located in St Arnaud?

A

Yes, at the St Arnaud Alpine Store. The next petrol station is Wakefield, 62km Murchison, 60 kms or Blenheim 103 kms.

Q Is there an ATM machine in St Arnaud?

A

No, important to organise your funds before your arrival. 

 

Q Does St Arnaud have a postal service?

A

Yes, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays are pick up days. There is a mail box situated outside the store .You can purchase postcards, envelopes, stamps and courier bags from the St Arnaud Alpine Store.

Q Can we hire mountain bikes in St Arnaud?

A

Yes you can hire bikes in St Arnaud.

Q Is there a water taxi service?

A

Q Can we hire Kayaks /in St Arnaud?

A

Q Are we allowed to fish in Lake Rotoiti, Rotoroa or the rivers?

A

Yes, provided you have a valid fishing licence for the area you wish to fish in and a licence for each person intending to fish. These can be purchased at the St Arnaud Alpine Store or the DOC information centre. Children must have a licence but they are free.

You are not allowed to catch the native eels that live in Lake Rotoiti at any time. Please see www.doc.govt.nz for further information.

Q What sort of watercraft are allowed on Lake Rotoiti or Lake Rotoroa?

A

Boats are allowed however the following has been taken from the DOC website for Nelson Lakes National Park. Please see www.doc.govt.nz for further information.

•Water-skiing is permitted on Rotoiti but not Rotoroa. Speed limits apply near the foreshore.

•Personal watercraft (jet skis) and hovercraft are prohibited on the lakes and rivers.

•Jet boats are prohibited on the rivers. 

•Overnight mooring is not permitted.

Q Are we allowed to use our Mountain bikes in the National Park?

Mountain biking is not allowed in the national park other than on formed roads. There are opportunities to bike on conservation land outside the boundary of the national park and in the district around St Arnaud:

•Teetotal Trails - rides from easy to advanced

•Mt Robert Road - intermediate

Around Lake Rotoroa and Murchison

•Porika Road - intermediate

•Braeburn Road - easy

•Glenroy Valley - advanced

•Matakitaki Valley – advanced

Q Are we allowed to hunt in the Nelson Lakes National Park area?

You MUST carry a valid gun license and a valid hunting permit at ALL times to legally hunt in land managed by DOC.

Q How far is it to drive to the Rainbow Ski Field?

A

The ski area is a 40 minute drive from St Arnaud along state highway 63 (SH63.

The Rainbow road is a private road that runs through the Rainbow Station, please be aware of stock on the road and drive to the conditions.

Approximately 1 hour 30 minutes’ drive from Nelson airport, 1 hour 20 minutes’ drive from Blenheim, 1 hour 40 minutes from Picton and 1 hour 20 minutes’ drive from Murchison.

Q Can we hire snow chains in St Arnaud?

A

Yes they are available for hire at the St Arnaud Alpine Store.

During the winter the winter you MUST carry chains at all times if you wish to drive to the Rainbow Ski field.

Lake Rotoroa is 35 minutes drive away.
